New year, new contests

Now that all that Christmas hubbub is over and things are getting back to normal, let's look forward and see what this new year brings. Hopefully some trips, concerts, and cash! Yahoooooo!!

First up: Virgin Radio

They don't have much going on just yet, but stay tuned as I'm sure they will come up with something awesome soon. Until then, become a Virgin VIP and enter their Dine Out Vancouver contest (here). Guess their Blurred Breakfast and you could win $100 to spend at a Dine Out Vancouver restaurant. You will then be entered to win the grand prize, which includes 2 nights in a hotel, 2 tix to Snowshoe Fondue, The Secret Supper Soiree, and The Brunch Crawl Event. What a blast this would be, and I would totally enter if I didn't have young kids (it would cost me a fortune in babysitting to attend all of those!) Oh Jack, how I love thee... I always wanted to marry a man named Jack or name a son Jack, but neither happened (it was too popular of a name when my son was born so I chose a more unique name). But I dearly love the name, and I also love the station! They always have fun stuff going on, and no big egos to step around... So starting on Monday, qualify for one more trip to the Bahamas at 7:40, 9:40, 11:40, 2:40, 4:40 and 6:40. The grand prize will be drawn on Friday, January 17th.

On top of that, listen daily for your chance to win tickets to the Boat Show. Everyone who wins will be entered for the big prize - dinner with Kieran!!! Okay, it's actually dinner for you and 3 friends, but you don't HAVE to bring friends. Probably. ;) The dinner will be on a yacht. This week Mike and Tara will be giving away tickets to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's presentation of Romeo and Juliet. I love that they support the arts like this. One year I won tickets to the Nutcracker and got to take my then 5 year old to see it. She fell asleep for the last bit, but I think she still got cultured... (?) Nothing else is up on their site as of yet, they are keeping their cards close and not letting us peek. Something big's just around the corner...

Sonic

You can also enter for that trip to the Grammy's on Sonic's site, but it's one entry per person so don't enter here if you've already entered at Jack. Another way to get to the Grammys is to win a trip there! Qualify at 8:10, 12:10, 5:10 and 8:10 daily starting Monday. You could win the grand prize and go rub shoulders with the rich and famous! Well, maybe not, but you could be breathing the same air, and potentially go home with some molecules that they breathed out...

The Peak

Shore

Hmmmm.... I wonder what's happening with Shore... I really like this station, I hope they're not on their way out. There's been some changing in the guards over there, with stations being bought and sold and whatnot, so I hope they're just waiting for the dust to settle. This station could really take over the airwaves if they played their cards right! We will be watching with great interest...

Team 1040

I read a Tweet yesterday that implied Bro Jake's show was ending. Simply not true. He was off for Christmas just like everybody else, but he will be back starting Monday. Some are relieved, some are annoyed. I don't care either way, as I don't listen to that station. My husband is thrilled, as he's a big fan of Bro Jake and loves listening to him on Team 1040. The Toyota Tundra Power Play contest is back on - when the Canucks get a power play, they will draw a name. If it's you, and the Canucks score, you win $100. If they don't score, the jackpot goes up by $25 with each scoreless power play. So get your name in that draw! You don't have to be listening to the broadcast to win, but you do have to enter. Rock 101 and CFOX


I'm not supposed to mention the Corus stuff, but I just can't help it today! Every Friday in January, Rock 101 is giving away an all-inclusive trip to Puerto Vallarta. Eeeeeek!!! This is even better than the Vegas prize! Listen at 8, 11, 2 and 5 to get on the Stand-by List. Plus starting next week, CFOX will be taking qualifiers for a trip to Hawaii at 7, 9, 12, 3, and 5 each day, with the draw on Friday at 5:30. Either way, I can't win, but YOU can!

Did you hear what Karen did?!?!

Karen Daniels from JRFM's Waking Crew has simply lost her mind. She is opening up her vacation home to complete strangers! She (and presumably her husband) is going to spend 3 nights with Clay (and his wife Anne?), and two listeners and their spouses/partners/friends. Of course, I am going to apply, and here's why:

1) her home is in Phoenix Arizona. Friggin' Phoenix!!! I've never been there, always wanted to go, and will probably never get another chance to go there for FREE.

2) they have a pool. Presumably it's a private pool, but even if it's a community pool, it's a friggin' POOL!!! I haven't spent much time around pools and they always make me feel awkward, but I think the booze for breakfast might mask that...

3) booze. For breakfast. And lunch, and dinner, and midnight snack. Why? Because my children are at home, being lovingly cared for by an aunt/neighbour/friend/babysitter, and I've no reason to stay sober! Did I mention that my husband would go with me? All the more reason to drink! Not only is he a riot when he's sober, he's even funnier when I'm drunk!

4) George Strait concert. WHAAAAAAT?!?! Already an incredible trip is made incredible-er with a serenade by a Country Music Legend! With an astounding 60 hits to choose from, this will be a jaw-dropping, foot stomping, panty-tossing performance! I'd better wear pants...

5) the Waking Crew. I've always maintained that everybody's nice until you get to know them. Sure, that nice cashier at your regular stop is friendly for that 3 minutes you interact, but get past polite conversation and people's ugly begins to show. I am not good at hiding mine, but my husband tries so hard to hide his (AND mine, which makes it all the funnier!) But with Clay and Karen, we know what we're getting into. We've seen their under bellies, heard all their insecurities, idiosyncrasies, idols and idylls. We know how curmudgeonly Clay can get, and we know how nit picky Karen can be. It would be fun to watch them rub each other the wrong way after too much togetherness! 

Clay and Karen will read all of the applications and choose who they think would be the most fun on the trip. I imagine Karen will have the most say, as she is taking the biggest risk. The definition of fun varies, depending on who you ask. Clay's might go something like: likes to drink, is a good conversationalist, can BBQ like a chef, and appreciates good coffee. Karen's idea of a fun guest might sound more like: likes to drink, cook for others, clean up after themselves, lounge, and play cards. I'm so totally in Karen's wheelhouse. Totally. Clay may be a bit harder to charm, but if his wife comes it's a whole different ball game! Although, neither took their spouses on the previous year's sleepover, so maybe they aren't coming. Uh oh...

They will announce a winner on the 13th. One ad for the contest says they are looking for "two fun loving winners and their guests", but the other ad says they will choose "A" winner on the 13th. So I'm not sure if it will be one couple or two, though I was under the impression it was TWO when they were talking about it. Either way, GOOD LUCK! If it's not me, I hope it's YOU! And please blog/tweet/update us if you can - we'd love to hear YOUR side of the story!!!

Aaaaaand we're back!

We will be off to a slow start, but things will pick up speed soon. For now though, let's just enjoy having our regular hosts back! I am a huge advocate of change - it's good for the soul - but I also enjoy routine after a period of hubbub. So tune in to your favourite morning show and hear how their holidays went. Maybe they'll reward us with some giveaways!

The JRFM waking crew always have great stories when they've been away for a spell. It'll be fun to hear if they missed eachother - they will have ten days' worth of barbs to exchange! And maybe they'll throw some Keith tickets at their lucky listeners...

Mike and Tara are back too, and maybe they'll bring along the Wake Up and Win words. It would be cruel to challenge their turkey and gravy frought listeners with the Fast Five though, wouldn't it?!

At this point I must tell you that my iPad is broken and I am pretty much lost without it. This post would normally take me 20 minutes to write. I'm already a half hour in, and I am beyond annoyed with this frigging tablet!!! It's my husband's Samsung and it's infuriatingly slow. I am unable to quickly bounce around Twitter and the internet to get the information you and I will need for the rest of the week.

So here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to call it a night! I'm going to go to bed, and when I get up I will use my husband's laptop to write up a schedule for us. Check back in the morning and I should have something for us...
