Every year I have to Google this because I forget - is Boxing Day a stat holiday in BC? Turns out, it's NOT! So does that mean there might be some contests happening? There won't be much, but possibly a few things...

The next two weeks, Holidays 2013
The calm before the storm is upon us! The next two weeks will be suuuuper slooooow, but once school is back in session, things will pick up quickly.
Jack and Sonic are both doing their draws on Monday morning. I won't hold my breath. Other than that, the only thing happening that I know of is the Santa Song, which will happen weekdays right up until the 31st.
Many of the regular hosts are away (or at least off work) until the new year, so even the regular morning quizzes and such will be missing. I will post if I hear of anything happening this week, and tweet if I hear of anything coming up during the day.

Keith for Kissmas!
JRFM is going ALL OUT for Christmas this year! They will be giving away 8 pairs of Keith Urban tickets this weekend - WOOT!!!

Do you know someone who needs help?
Nat and Drew have chosen their family for Breaking and Entering, and will be doing their breaking and entering this Thursday! That will be so cool to listen to!
In the spirit of helping those in need, I would love to help make someone's Christmas a little merrier. I'm not rich, but what little I have, I would gladly share.
There's just one problem: I don't know anyone who needs help! I am the poorest person I know. Literally. Just a few short years ago, I could barely afford to buy diapers let alone pay for preschool or new clothes. Though things are better now, we have few extras. But we have a tree, a turkey, trimmings, and presents. Our home is warm and we are clothed and well fed. We want for nothing, truly. I replaced our daughter's hole-y leggings with a few pairs for $4 each at Old Navy today. I love a good deal!
My point, and I DO have one, is that no one I know personally is in need of anything. Everyone has a tree, stockings brimming with presents, and plenty of extras. A few years ago I posted on Craig's List that I wanted to help a family at Christmas and was able to give some families a few extras - $50 gift certificates, toys, etc. Some were truly needy, others were not. Another time, when we had little ourselves but I wanted to adopt a family through YWCA, we helped a single Mom with food and gifts. We had already been assigned her by the organization when I read her wish list: included in her list was "gift certificates and anything Lululemon." Um...what? I couldn't afford Lululemon underwear, let alone clothing, for myself or my family, so I certainly couldn't afford to get HER any! But I managed to scrape together enough to buy her the $75 Safeway gift card (which was mandatory) and some toys for her child. When I dropped them off, I had to get my visiting brother to drive me because I was too sick to drive. They weren't home, but I could see from the door that the bottom of the tree was WELL stocked already. I didn't feel like they needed my help, and left feeling taken advantage of. A bit Bah Humbugish.
So if you know someone that is TRULY in need, someone who couldn't afford to buy presents for their kids, doesn't have a turkey, doesn't have resources or family to help them, please let me know. Maybe you know a widow or widower or ill couple without family nearby who could use a turkey dinner or ??? I can't do much, but I can do SOMETHING. And something is better than nothing, in my opinion.

JRFM FUNdraising Day is here!!
If I lived anywhere near Langley, I would go to this! For sure! I can think of a dozen reasons why:
1) admission is by donation
2) inflatable obstacle course
3) meet JRFM DJs
4) free concerts:
5) Pictures with Santa (SANTA!!!)
6) Cookie Walk (for cookies!)
7) Silent Auction
8) Kraft Corner for kids (or adults! We won't judge!)
9) 11am-6pm (all day fun, don't have to entertain the kids myself!)
10) meet and greet passes are only $5
11) feel good about having fun because
12) it's for the babies!!!

How many of us are starting to panic about Xmas? Who has finished their Xmas shopping? Who still needs to win something for that special someone??

It's actually a 4 pack of tickets to the Maple Leaf Monster Jam Tour at BC Place on Feb 1st. That would be absolute hell for me, but I know a few people who would really enjoy it.
I love JRFM's Winning Weekends. Sometimes they give away CDs, and sometimes they give away event tickets. Woot!!! And next week they are giving away Keith for Kristmas! I'm not a fan of his haircut, but I sure do love Keith Urban's voice, songs, tatties, style, etc, etc, etc. I will be calling in for this one for sure!

Now I just need one of those Metrotown gift cards from Virgin so I can buy stocking stuffers and spend the rest on a needy family...

Ever been to a 4 Cats party?
I have young kids so I have been to at least four parties at the various 4 Cats studios on the West Side. Every time, my daughter has come away with some amazing creation! We even have one of them framed and hanging in our living room. Another one is front and centre in our dining room. Beautiful! And she was only SIX when she made them! Crazy!!!
At the splatter parties, each of the kids gets to make one for themselves, and then there's a massive one that the birthday child gets to take home. It is made by all the kids together, then 4 Cats stretches it, dries it, and puts it on a frame. The birthday child can have each of their guests sign the edge later, once it's ready to be hung on the wall. Imagine that on the wall of their bedroom! So cool! They can stare at it for years to come, always finding new patterns and images.
Did you know that 4 Cats also does adult splatter parties?? Mmmmmhm. Yup. And I'd bet they'd even let you sip a glass of wine while you do it. So consider that next time you need to plan a team building exercise, or a bachelorette party, or a birthday party, or even just a Mommy-Needs-a-Break party!
And... *ahem*... don't forget to invite ME...
Let's make it the Kits location on 10th, right around the corner from Grounds for Coffee (so we can enjoy a gooey cinnamon bun whilst we create!)

The good folks at Shore are having a live auction on Thursday! If you have some extra money laying around, this is a sweet deal for you!!!
From 6 am to 6 pm, they will be auctioning off the most AH-MAZING prizes! Highest bid at the end of the hour wins. Easy peasy!
The money goes to the Make a Wish Foundation, a wonderful organization that grants wishes to children with life threatening illnesses. By crossing one thing off your own bucket list you help someone else see their own dream come true. Sweet! I love win-win situations!

Dec 7th & 8th
Feels like Christmas...in Siberia! Man, it's c-c-c-cold! What are YOU doing to keep warm?
There are two games in town this weekend that I'm aware of:
Sonic - each day you can qualify to see Lady Gaga in Toronto. Listen for the cue to call at 8:10, 12:10, 5:10 and 8:10.
Virgin - both days they will be giving away Lady Gaga tickets on their FaceBook page.
The Peak and JRFM both say they are giving away stuff EVERY day, but maybe they meant WEEK day. I guess we will see - keep your ear out for Shell gas cards on JR and Imagine Dragons tix on Peak. It's possible that they are taking the weekend off, but you never know... And if you hear, let ME know in case I miss it! The Peak tweeted that they WILL be giving away Imagine Dragon tickets all weekend, so listen at 8, 12, and 4.
Keep an eye on my Twitter feed - if I hear of anything else up for grabs I will tweet it. Make sure you scroll back in my feed to see if you missed anything (sometimes important tweets get buried when I tweet too much, ha ha).
And while you're toasting your tootsies by your cozy fire or warming your hands around your hot cup of coffee, give a thought to the poor and homeless. Grab those extra blankets that are hidden at the back of the cupboard, the wool socks that you've been saving for 6 years IN CASE you go skiing, and that winter coat that you don't really like anymore but keep around in case your sister comes to town, and take them down to the downtown eastside.
If you see someone shivering in a doorway or pushing a cart, offer them a blanket, a hot cuppa, or a sandwich. If you are too shy or scared, take your donations to Save On Meats or Union Gospel Mission and they will see that they are given to those who need them. And if it's too cold to even leave the house (imagine how THEY feel!) then go to Saveonmeats.ca and buy some tokens. They
are $2.25 each and so easy to buy! For the price of one latte you can give two sandwiches to the hungry with the click of a button. The police will hand them out for you as they walk the streets.

Friday, Dec 6th.
Only 18 more days until Xmas! Uh oh, better start trying to win some presents! I could give Gaga tix to Gina, Imagine Dragons tix to Imogene, and VSO tix to Victor! Man, they would love those!

Virgin: win a $500 gift card to Metropolis at Metrotown every single day. I will tweet the Santa Song of the day as soon as I know it, and try to guess when they'll play it. I'm usually wrong... Monday was at 1:30. Tuesday was after 7 pm. Wednesday was 4:55, Thursday was after 8. Maybe before noon this time??
Jack: qualify for a family trip to Disneyland multiple times per day. You can usually predict the time they will give the cue to call - they'll be 2 hours apart. I'm not sure what No Time to Google prize is, but I know they are giving away Lady Gaga tickets sometime in the morning.
